Awakened

This poem tells one version of how I sometimes see the journey of my healing.  I wrote it not long ago as I was reflecting on all the magnificent and wonderful changes I’ve made in my life over the last 8 months or so.  I truly feel like a different person sometimes – whole, healed, joyful, and wonderfully blessed.  I’ve learned to dream again and there are few greater gifts in life!

Awakened

As a little girl
I had a treasured box
Filled spilling to the brim
With words and lines
Of dreams and knowing.

As years passed and I grew
My treasured box was
Hidden away to gather dust
Too sad and scared was I
To find the dreams in me.

As time continued on
Darkness fell on dreams
The moon too far to see
The stars winked out by fear
And light in me grew dim.

As trust grew very small
And grief engulfed
My treasured box splintered
Dreams and light filled purpose
Replaced by logical convention.

As the darkest of darks fell
I stood at a crossroad
And made a decision
That ignited a spark within my
Splintered treasure box.

As a hot June night fell dark
My weary fearful heart
Quietly burst wide open
Exploding with light and life
A treasured box whole once more.

As time continues still
I have again a treasured box
Filled spilling to the brim
Sparkling with light and joy
Overflowing with dreams for me.
